Complete Disaster: Is Rick And Morty Creator Innocent?

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably heard of the allegations levied against Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roilands. For those confused, I do not blame you. The accusations against Roiland are pretty complex and span a multitude of fields. Earlier this year, it came to light that Roilands has been charged with domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend. Once the lawsuit became public, things quickly spiraled for the Rick and Morty Creator.

He left the studio that created a show he worked on called High on Life. Subsequently, he was also dropped from Rick and Morty. Unfortunately, this is not where the allegations against Justin Roilands stop. In addition to the domestic violence case, he faced other serious claims involving minors. It is important to remember that all of these are just allegations. Some of the allegations are serious and hard to ignore, while others are a bit more suspicious or, in some instances, outright false.

Some very offensive text messages from Roilands started to make the rounds on Social Media. In these messages, he is allegedly speaking to minors, and the things he says are disturbing. Additionally, multiple sources allege that he sent creepy text messages to a female employee asking her to come over to his place late at night. In one case, a person on social media also shared alleged text messages between herself and Justin. In it, the conversation did turn sexual relatively fast. The woman presented herself as underage, only to clarify later that she was not. She defended herself by saying she looked at it while not underage.

Justin Roilands Claim Victory, But Things End In Disaster

With all of this in mind, it is essential to understand that not everything is black and white. The allegations against Justin Roilands are complicated. While it is important to always listen to a victim and not just immediately dismiss allegations, due process is of equal value. At the time of the domestic violence allegations, Justin Roilands always maintained his innocence. He stated that this was a cancellation attempt from a bitter Ex.

Last week, Roilands took to Twitter to proclaim his innocence in a Justice tweet. Here, he has the following to say. “I have always known that these claims were false – and I never had any doubt that this day would come. I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed, but at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process. Most of all, I’m disappointed that so many people were so quick to judge without knowing the facts, based solely on the word of an embittered ex trying to bypass due process and have me canceled. That it may have succeeded, even partially, is shameful. However, now that the legal case has ended, I’m determined to focus on my creative projects and restoring my good name”.

As for the prosecution’s office, they stated that there was a lack of sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt as a result of additional information that came to light in the investigation. With all of this, there is, of course, still the matter of the text messages with alleged minors. Currently, Roilands has not yet adequately addressed any of these claims.

Complete Disaster: No Due Process Leads To Insanity

With Justin Roilands found Innocent on the two counts of domestic violence, public reaction is quite mixed. This is to be expected. In the eyes of some, you will never be cleared, no matter what you do. They don’t hate you for what you did; they hate you for who you are. This means that any allegation, false or not, serves as nothing more than just a tool to hit you over the head. On Twitter, this is especially true. This is also why Twitter allegations are so hard to fight against.

In the case of Justin Roilands, it is a bit more complicated. There are serious allegations against him. These allegations are from alleged minors. Simply dismissing all of that as false and fake, even in cases where the messages have been authenticated, is wrong. If you do this, you are no better than the Twitter weirdos who condemn people without due process. Remembering that two things can be true at once is always important. Roilands can be guilty of some things and innocent of others. I do not blame you if you need clarification on this. Once again, Twitter allegations are not the same as real-life reported cases. While 95% of patients reported to the police are valid, that statistic does not follow through on Twitter.

If your question is, why would people lie about something like this? Unfortunately, I do not have an answer for you. Why did Jussie Smollett lie about a hate crime? Why do people make fake videos on YouTube where they put animals in dangerous situations and then pretend to save them? Some people are just messed up. This is why due process is so important.

Can Rick And Morty Creator Make A Comeback?

As stated above, with Justin Roilands found innocent on the two counts of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, opinions online are mixed. Many people on Social Media pointed to the fact that Roilands was found innocent because his guilt could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Some contribute this to the fact that he is rich. The better your lawyer, the better your chances of clearing your name. With this current system in place, innocent people get charged and prosecuted constantly. At the same time, guilty people often walk free.

As much as this is true, it is not a fair criticism, especially against a public figure. This means that no matter what you do, you will always be guilty by some. It means your career is over if an allegation is levied against you. You are still guilty even if you go to court and clear your name. That is not a standard I want to live by, and I do not think anyone else does either.

However, some people have also pointed out a few valid concerns about Roilands innocent claims. Although he was cleared of the domestic violence charges, it does not excuse the bad text messages. The messages with alleged minors are hard to ignore. If Roilands does not adequately address this, he will never truly clear his name. As pointed out earlier, it is easy to simply just dismiss all these messages as fake. The truth is, though, in cases where messages are authenticated, he needs to address them. Right now, he is choosing to ignore it. There are better strategies than that.

Is There A Future For Rick And Morty?

With Justin Roilands out at Adult Swim, many wonder what will happen to Rick and Morty. If you are concerned about the show’s future, you don’t need to be. Adult Swim announced they renewed the show for 70 more episodes as part of their long-term deal with the creators. Although Justin Roilands is no longer part of the team, Dan Harmon is determined to continue with the show. Many people have stated that Harmon was way more involved with the show creatively. Due to this, only a little will change from a story perspective.

Rolands, however, was the leading voice actor on the show. He is the voice of both titled characters, Rick and Morty. This means that the roles have to be recast. Luckily, that won’t be hard to do. Plenty of voice actors will be able to mimic the voices. The only obstacle will be acting. It is one thing to sound like the character, but you must also work. It is called a voice actor for a reason. Part of the job is the voice, and the other is acting. If you can’t do both, it won’t work. However, with voice changers and AI, anything is possible. For Rick and Morty, not too much of the show will change. Ultimately, though, only time will honestly tell.

Is Justin Roilands Done For Good?

With all of this in mind, what is next for Justin Roilands? In his statement on Social Media, he mentioned that he wants to return to work. Unfortunately, this is going to take a lot of work to do. There is little chance that Adult Swim will accept him back. Rolands did have a bunch of projects. Not only is he the co-creator of Rick and Morty, but he also created another show called Solar Opposites on Hulu.

In addition to this, he also founded two studios. An animation studio called Justin Roilands Solo Vanity Card Production and a Game studio called Squanch Games. This studio released a highly successful game in 2022 titled High on Life. It is currently number one on Xbox Game Pass. It is worth pointing out that Roilands resigned from both studios. As established, although he now wants to get back to work, it will be challenging.

Even if he starts all over again and creates a new studio or show, you still need a network willing to buy it. With all the bad press surrounding his name, it will be almost impossible to do. In today’s online climate, it is easier than back in the day, but still tricky. You have a couple of online streaming services dominating the Space. If they don’t want you, it will be hard to go out on your own. Moving forward for Roilands, it will be a steep and long climb back up to the mountain top.
