Mass Call Of Duty Backlash After Nickmercs Make LGBTQ Comments

The Call of Duty and Nickmercs situation is dominating headlines. If you are unfamiliar with the backlash against these two parties, you should consider yourself lucky. As most know, we are currently celebrating Pride Month. Although the true intention behind this period is to support the LGBTQ community, it has devolved into nothing more than a corporate money-making scheme over the years. I have always supported LGBTQ rights, and I am not just saying that because I fear being canceled. However, I am not a supporter of these spineless corporations trying to use it to make money.

Every pride month, you see each Corporation changing its logos and pushing many LGBTQ products down everybody’s throats. These products do not support the community; they only exist to make money. It is nothing more than pandering. However, the drive to make money far exceeds any morality, which extends to video games. Nickmercs is a Twitch content creator and a dedicated Call Of Duty player. He is known across the entire community for his Warzone streams.

Over the years, he has managed to build himself up, and today, he stands as one of the most popular Call Of Duty streamers in the world. Due to this popularity, Nickmercs has received plenty of opportunities. He holds a lot of influence over gamers, and thus, Activision decided to include Nick in their most famous export. He received his skin packs a few weeks ago, the first of its kind. Sadly for Nickmercs, his partnership with this popular franchise is now ending. This comes after the popular streamer decided to take to Twitter to voice his opinion on a particular matter.

Call Of Duty Removes Nickmercs

Nickmercs is known throughout the community as a person who will always express himself openly. Recently, he decided to do that on Twitter, and the repercussions have been instant. There is currently a school within the United States that chose to vote against the celebration of Pride Month. This includes not talking about LGBTQ issues with the children. Due to this vote, mass protests erupted outside the school. You have those who support the ruling and those who are against it. Nickmercs voiced his opinion when he tweeted that children should be left alone in school.

He later took to his stream, further doubling down on his comments. He stated that he would soon be a father himself. As a new father, he believes it is essential for parents to teach their kids about this issue. However, Activision did not like these comments at all. You might be able to crawl under women’s desks and steal their breastmilk, but parents talking to their children is where Activision decided to draw the line. I understand the situation is a bit more complicated, but Call Of Duty decided to take immediate action.

They stated on Twitter: Due to recent events, we have removed the “NICKMERCS Operator” bundle from the Modern Warfare II and Warzone store. We are focused on celebrating PRIDE with our employees and our community.

Currently, no further statements have been made by the company. Nick said: “Friends are created in good times, but families are built through adversity. Appreciate all of you that have my back, understand my position as a new father & recognize the love I have for all. Ain’t no hate in this heart.

Mass Call Of Duty Backlash

The backlash against Call Of Duty’s decision to remove Nickmercs has been swift. Although some support the decision, many feel his comments were not strong enough to warrant this action. In protest, many decided to uninstall the game from their library. It was not only the public who chose to stand behind the popular streamer. Many of his online friends also decided to support him publicly. One of these people was famous fellow Call Of Duty streamer Dr. Disrespect.

He stated on his broadcast that he would no longer be playing the game until Activision apologized or reversed its decision. Many others within the community support the boycott of the game. As we know, though, these types of boycotts will not affect the game. If you are always online, it might feel like the whole world is on Twitter. However, we know this not to be the case. There is a tiny minority of people on the platform. There is an even smaller group of people who know who Nickmercs is.

The majority of people will be unaware of this situation. Most want to play games and not care about anything else. However, it will still hurt Call Of Duty’s reputation further. Even a tiny minority of people can still significantly impact sales. Since games like Call Of Duty rely on online advertising such as Twitter and YouTube, a boycott’s effects can still impact sales. However, that impact on sales will not be enough for Call Of Duty to reverse their decision.

Nickmercs And Call Of Duty Aftermath

People have different opinions on everything. Many do not know how to feel when teaching children about these issues from a young age. Some think that these issues have no place in school. They believe that children should be left alone unless it is an issue they support. Then, they will be all on board. Sadly, this always goes both ways. The people who usually yell the loudest are those who do not have children.

Many feel that teaching these issues from a young age is essential. It helps children to be more open-minded. Many LGBTQ children are bullied from a young age, and it is important to teach tolerance. They also argue that this type of education is not only for LGBTQ children. It helps straight children as well. There is truth in this thinking. However, you have to consider the alternative as well. This is where lots of the concern comes from. You do not know who will be speaking to your children.

While most educators want to educate, some parents fear that the wrong person might be speaking to their children. These type of talks can confuse their children in a way that a parent might not be comfortable with. Therefore, many parents want to wait until their child is old enough to understand fully the information they are taking in. It is a complicated issue, and there is no simple solution here. It is a decision that every parent will have to make for their own family.

Conclusion

I do not have children, and thus, I cannot tell you how to raise yours. When I have children, I hope to teach them from a young age to be respectful and tolerant towards the LGBTQ community. I do not believe that there is a national agenda to trans children or try and turn them gay. If discussing these issues turns you gay, you might have been gay. However, I will still respect every parent’s decision to decide for themselves. I also respect Nickmercs’ decision to want to parent their child.

Every family will do what is best for them. If your decisions do not discriminate against others who want to live their lives, you can do what will work for you.
