Rachel Zegler Paddington 3 recast is sparking speculation amidst the Snow White controversy. By this point, Rachel Zegler is a name that most people are likely aware of. Unfortunately, Rachel Zegler faces one large stumbling block, which has to do with likability. Over the years, many celebrities have faded away due to this issue. There are, of course, also many who embraced it and became more significant than ever.
Others continued to fail upwards. Currently, it is still too early to tell where Zegler will fall. The hate against the actress currently can be boiled down to a few reasons. Firstly, some do not like her as a casting choice for Snow White. Halle Bailey faced the same backlash when cast as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. However, the backlash against Zegler is much higher, and there are a few reasons.

The real backlash against Rachel Zegler started when she made questionable comments about the movie she is set to star in. She stated that the original film was creepy and called Prince Charming a stalker. She further noted that the original film was about him and the kiss, and this movie will be about Snow White and her empowerment without Prince Charming. Her statement was concluded by insinuating that her co-star Andrew Burnap’s role could be cut entirely from the movie because Snow White needs no man. The way she said it was in a highly condescending way.
It is worth pointing out that Snow White will not have a Prince Charming in the movie. Andrew Burnap is cast as Jonathan, who is believed to be a replacement for the iconic prince. They do not need to cast a Prince Charming for this film to work. The previous live-action starting Kristen Steward did not have a Prince Charming; instead, they focused on the Huntsman. Disney is free to tell any story they want to. However, people are also allowed to have their reactions to the film.
Rachel Zegler’s Snow White won’t be like anything we have seen before. Disney exclusively wants to focus on the titled character. What upset many people is the disconnect between the actress and the original film. If you watched Snow White and your only takeaway is Prince Charming bad, then you missed the point of the plot. The original movie is not just about a kiss. It is about jealousy, wickedness from the queen, the kingdom, and unlikely friendships with the dwarfs, and the ultimate journey through the kingdom.

Regardless of your opinions, the hate against Rachel Zegler cannot be ignored. A few days ago, reports made the rounds that the actress was fired from Disney and Snow White. I am sure I do not need to say this, but these are rumors. However, she did lose out on a job, and that was for Paddington 3, where she was set to be one of the leads. There was plenty of speculation when the news broke of Zeglers recasting in the movie. Many wondered if this was due to the ongoing backlash against her.
It makes sense that a studio would not want to work with someone who bad-mouths the films they are set to start in. Thus, many jumped to the conclusion that she was fired due to the backlash she generated. However, an alternative explanation is being offered for the recasting. The official reason is that the film will be shot in the UK. Over there, they have their own actors union that is not beholden to the Hollywood strike.
Since Zegler belongs to this union and there is an ongoing strike, they state that she cannot be in the movie. Due to this, Paddington 3 decided to drop Zegler and recast the role. It is worth noting that the Actors strike in Hollywood is set to end very soon. Recasting Zegler, due to this reason, feels like an overreaction. There is a possibility that they did not want to be associated with all of the bad publicity. They likely saw everything going on and decided to move in a different direction.

While actors get replaced constantly, it is strange that they would recast her now after she landed the role. They could have waited a few more weeks and started with the filming. The studio could have waited a bit since she wrapped up Snow White and Hunger Games and already committed to Paddington.
